Time, the feature of life that never changes, stands still, gets bigger or smaller. It has been the same for millennia and always will. We have lots of ‘time-saving devices’ but how many times do you find yourself uttering the immortal phrase ‘I don’t have enough time’?Eating used to be a leisurely pursuit, a social occasion allowing people the opportunity to bond with their colleagues, family and friends over a shared meal. Mediterranean cultures such as the French Spanish and Italian...

On May 6th it’s not just time to get down to the polling station (if you’re in the UK, that is). Set a reminder in your diaries and break out your blue ribbon because it’s also International No Diet Day.The first INDD, in 1992, was organised by Mary Evans Young – a former eating disorder sufferer and campaigner who wanted to promote size acceptance and was horrified by the lengths women and girls were going to in order to lose weight.

I first read about The School of Life in a free newspaper back when it opened in September 2008, and have been meaning to go along to one of their classes ever since. Director Sophie Howarth described the concept to The London Paper by saying, “the idea is to give people the knowledge they need to get more out of everyday life”. It sounded qui...

Every now and again, we have dilemmas that we cannot talk to our nearest and dearest about. It might be about them, or something just too personal to share with someone who might remember it for years to come. So who do you approach in that sort of situation to help you out? Before you get as far as counselling or therapy, one of the easiest and cheapest ways to find solutions to life’s problems has to be to write to an advice column. But is it worth it?

And that unfortunately means that some things that could potentially actually be helpful can get thrown by the wayside by sceptics like me.

There’s a lot to be stressed out about, lately. Between the volcano, the earthquake, Geri Halliwell’s new album and Grace Jones being pissed off at Lady Gaga, I’m not sure the general public can take much more.

The relationship that women have with food is completely fickle. On the one hand we want to look a million dollars and on the other we want to eat what we want, when we want and are resistant to changes which may produce that million-dollar feeling.Every woman I know has at one stage tried to diet, even if it’s for a couple of hours or a few months, the goal is always the same – to lose excess weight. We are bombarded by information telling us what to eat, what not to eat and then temp...

Everyone feels jealous to some degree at many times in their life. You may have been jealous of the kid in your class who was academic, sporty and popular. Or perhaps the person at work who always seems to get everything right and is up for promotion. More likely is that you’re jealous of that female friend your boyfriend has, the gym buddy your girlfriend raves about, or the foxy colleague your husband keeps mentioning.

If you’re anything like me, the detox issue raises it’s monstrous head every few months, it’s like the angel of death planting itself on your shoulder, whispering sweet nothings into your ear telling you that a month of abstinence would make you feel so amazing. So why does it always feel like a year has past after two days, your diary suddenly fills up with invites to amazing parties and restaurants? Is it Sod’s Law or just because you are in martyrdom that these events seem so fabulo...
