Pretty much everyone reading this will have been to a mainstream school and most of us will have watched at least one high-school-based movie. That means you'll all know about the jocks versus nerds war. Whatever you call them in your neck of the woods, the sporty guys always get the better of the bookish chaps, and they pretty much always get the girl. In high school at least, muscles beat brains.
But what happens when everyone moves on from school and enters the 'real' world? Well, thankfully, things change and the playing field levels out a little more. So why do girls love jocks and hate nerds in high school? Is it because teenagers have different priorities and so young girls think that sporting prowess is the only way to go? Or is it because the nerds have yet to work out that you need to devote some of your time to things other than studying?
The intelligent nerd devotes his life to learning. While this may seem extremely uncool when you're a teenager, hence the lack of girls falling at the nerd's feet, once everyone leaves full-time education it seems the boot is on the other foot. Nerds learn about girls in the same way they learn about anything so, while the jock thinks that sex is all about him and his orgasm, geeky guys have been busily noticing what works and what doesn't to get their partner off.
Perhaps it's being ignored by the opposite sex during that time at high school that focuses the nerd and makes him work on the few things that might need attention, like social skills and appearance. While the supposedly cool guys are spending their early 20s waiting for women to come to them, those who were once uncool start to get attention from girls who are bored of the same old lines.
With their tendency towards high-paid jobs, often far away from where they grew up, when it comes to success the geeks are winning. Nerds were playing the long game but, stuck in the same small town with little or no higher education, the jock's options for finding hot girls suddenly become rather limited. How are your football skills helping you now, eh guys? Well, unless you're lucky enough to become a professional footballer, probably not very much.
So, if you're a young and geeky lad, do not despair. Life will get better and girls will eventually start paying attention to you. However, if you're a woman who has yet to experience the wonders of a relationship with someone who doesn't regard you as second place to his favourite team, do yourself a favour and look for someone who works in tech. Hot geeks with social skills are out there, and they really are well worth finding.
